Tub transfer chairs are designed to help you get in and out of a bathtub more easily and safely. For your safety it is important to use the chair correctly:
  • Put one set of legs inside the tub with the seat facing the faucet(s). The other set of legs remains outside the tub.
  • Sit or slide onto the seat.
  • Swing your legs (or have them lifted) over the side and into the tub.
  • Grab the arm support and slide to the center of the seat over the tub.
  • Clean with mild soap and water as part of your regular normal cleaning routine.
Safety Checklist
  • Do not use this chair if your weight is more than 250 pounds.
  • On models with adjustable heights, be sure that the legs are secure and level before use.
  • Do not use the chair's arm for support to stand, because the chair could tip over. Use grab bars instead.
  • Release the suction cups from the tub or floor by gently pulling the tabs near the bottom of each leg. Do not pull up on the chair; the suction cups may separate from the chair legs.
  • Check the tightness of all screws regularly. If parts become loose or the chair wobbles, do not use the chair. Call your company representative.
  • Inspect the suction cups regularly for cracks or dirt, which might keep them from holding. Replacements can be ordered by calling your company representative.

Commodes

A commode is a portable toilet, which can be used in a convenient location. It may also be sued over a standard toilet after the pail has been removed. To use your commode follow these tips:

  • Place the commode in an area convenient to the majority of your daily activities and in an area that allows for privacy.
  • Be sure that the commode paid is in place if you are not using the commode chair over a standard toilet.
  • If your commode has casters, be sure that the wheels are locked before use.
  • Lower yourself onto the seat, using the commode arms for support.
  • Empty the pan into the toilet and rinse or clean as needed.
  • The commode can be cleaned with mild soap and water as part of your normal cleaning routine. The commode seat, lid and pail can be removed from the chair frame for more thorough cleaning. Rinse or clean the pail as needed after each use.
  • Replacement pails and toilet paper holders are available for most models.

Drop Arm Commodes

Commodes with a droparm feature are designed to aid you in transferring from your bed or chair if you are not able to stand.

To Use This Feature

  • Place the commode next to you. Lower the arm on the side nearest you completely below the seat level.
  • Using the upright arm for support, slide onto the commode
  • Return the arm to the upright position, locking it securely. You will hear a click when the arm is in place.

Toilet Rails

Toilet rails attach to your toilet for added safety and to make sitting and rising easier. To use them follow these simple tips:

Attach the toilet rails following the manufacturer's directions.

  • On height-adjustable models, raise the arms to a comfortable height using the push-button adjustments. Adjust the width for your comfort.
  • Rails may be used singly. Place your rail on the side most suitable for you.
  • Some models have legs, which may be raised for ease in cleaning your bathroom floor.
  • Clean with mild soap and water as part of your normal cleaning routine.
  • Toilet paper holders are available for most models.

Raised Toilet Seats

Raised toilet seats add form 4-6 inches to the height of your standard bathroom toilet. The added height will help relieve strain on muscles and joints. They are easy to install and use:

  • Raise the lid of your toilet.
  • Fasten the raised toilet seat securely to your toilet, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Once the raised toilet seat is in place, you will be unable to lower the lid of your toilet.
  • Wash your seat with mild soap and water or bathroom cleanser as part of your normal cleaning routine.

Bathroom Safety

  • Use a non-slip mat or decal in your tub and shower.
  • Place rubber feet on your shower seat or stool. Add non-slip tape or decals to the seat.
  • Use caution on wet floors.
  • If you have trouble standing, use a bath seat and a hand held shower or shampoo spray.
  • If you can't step over the side of the tub, use a tub transfer seat.
  • Never use a towel rack or ceramic soap dish for support. They may easily pull out of the wall.
  • Lock the wheels or casters of commodes and chairs after moving them into place. Double-check the locks before using them.
  • Keep your water temperature no higher then 120° to prevent scalding.
  • Keep small bathroom appliances unplugged when not in use.
  • Do not use electrical appliances while bathing or near water.
  • Install a ground fault circuit interrupter in the bathroom to protect against electric shock.

Grab Bars

Grab bars can help to prevent falls in your bathroom and can help you to get into and out of your bathtub more easily. They can be mounted on your wall, or attached to your bathtub. Grab bars should be made of rustproof metal. When you install your grab bars follow these tips:

  • Use vertical wall mounted bars for your shower.
  • Use horizontal wall mounted bars for your tub.
  • Position your grab bars within easy reach to best meet your safety and comfort needs. They should stand out far enough form the wall for an easy grasp.
  • Install wall mounted grab bars securely to the studs in your wall. Follow the manufacturer's directions carefully.
  • Never use a towel rack or ceramic soap dish for support. They may easily pull out of the wall.
  • Lock the wheels or casters of commodes and chairs after moving them into place. Double-check the locks before using them.
